Alan S. Koch is a senior technical lead instructor at Cprime. Alan provides training, coaching and consulting services primarily in subjects related to DevOps, Agile and Software Testing. Alan began his formal education at Edinboro State College where he earned a B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Computer Science. He then went on to earn a Master of Science in Management Science with a concentration in Business Administration from the University of Dayton. Since then, Alan has gone on to earn numerous certifications from organizations such as Project Management Institute, Scrum Alliance, IC Agile, and DevOps Institute.
Alan has spent more than 40 years in the information technology field with a primary focus on software development and software quality. He started his career out doing technical work in software development and IT operations. He has logged 14 years of designing, developing, and maintaining software, as well as two decades in quality assurance.
These included establishing & managing a QA department and nearly two decades in process improvement, project management, and IT service management. He also spent 13 years with the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). In that time he became familiar with the Capability Maturity Model (CMM/CMMI) and worked on the Personal Software Process & Team Software Process (PSP/TSP) project. He attributed his transition into consulting to his time with SEI.
Since then, he has provided consulting services for companies of all sizes – from start-ups with 10 developers all the way to large DoD contractors, like Raytheon, with thousands in engineering. He’s also worked with universities as well as organizations in the finance, insurance, and retail sectors. Through his experience in a variety of industries, Alan has learned that problems common to all industries and domains manifest uniquely in each organization, requiring tailored resolution approaches.
