Factoids: Atlassian Enterprise Offerings

You have questions, we have answers. Here is the info you want to know about Atlassian’s Enterprise Offerings.

What are the Enterprise different offerings?

The Data Center deployment option provides high availability and performance at scale for your mission critical Atlassian applications

Premier Support delivers account-level access to a dedicated senior engineering team providing enhanced availability and SLAs for all your Atlassian applications.

A Technical Account Manager (TAM) is a trusted advisor for your implementation teams providing guidance, advice and coordination across your organization, the Expert partner ecosystem and Atlassian’s internal teams to maximize the value your Atlassian solutions

What are the benefits of the Enterprise offerings?

• High Availability/Fail over – High availability makes the system easy to maintain. This enables you to take nodes offline temporarily and bring it back online again without affecting other nodes.

• Performance – At any time, you can add additional nodes to your instance as needed to support your growing user base and JIRA concurrent traffic.

• Archiving – This allows JIRA to grow organically with your organization by moving non-used projects/issues to a dedicated archiving server

What is horizontal scaling?

To scale horizontally means to add more nodes to a system, for example, adding a computer to a distributed software application, or scaling out from one web server to three. System architects may configure numerous computers in a cluster to achieve computing power that often exceeds the capacity of a single processor. Such growth has led to demand for software that allows efficient management and maintenance of multiple nodes, as well as hardware such as shared data storage with much higher performance. Size scalability is the maximum number of processors that a system can accommodate

What is a data center?

The Data Center deployment option provides high availability and performance at scale for your mission critical Atlassian applications. Our Data Center product is a term license starting at 1000 users for JIRA and Confluence (coming soon), see our Data Center information page for more details.

Who would benefit from Data Center Offerings?

Data Center is best suited for customers with very large instances with large numbers of users and high activity.

How is Data Center Installed?

Data Center functionality is built into JIRA and Confluence and is activated using a special license key. Data Center is not an add on.

What are some requirements for a Data Center environment?

Must be able to read/write to a single database.

Must have access to a shared file system.

Process web requests.

Process background and recurring tasks.

What is a node?

In communication networks, a node is either a connection point, a redistribution point or a communication endpoint (some terminal equipment).

What is a cluster?

A cluster is a set of redundant system components (e.g. applications, databases, file systems, load balancers, etc.) working together in a coordinated manner.

Why use clustering?

High availability makes the system easy to maintain. This enables you to take nodes offline temporarily and bring it back online again without affecting other nodes.

Improved performance as a result because requests are distributed across servers, and if a server goes down, user requests are redirected to other components.
